If the ProcessID column is not displayed, Go to Views -> Select Columns...
and click on PID.
In the errorlog of a SQL instance, the process ID of that instance is
reported at the beginning of the errorlog. Alternatively, you can query the
process ID of the instance with SERVERPROPERTY('ProcessID').

Installing SSRS 2005 in web server and cluster environment.
Hi,
I am installing SSRS 2005 with the following scenario:
- Report Server and Report Manager will be installed on web server
- The repository databases (ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB) will be hosted in SQL2005 cluster server.
Both servers are running Win2003 SP1, SQL/SSRS 2005 SP1
When I try to browse the ReportServer virtual directory from IIS on the web server, the system keep asking username and password. After 3 times trials and it failed eventhough the username and password is correct.
The error message is:
HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
Internet Information Services (IIS)
I've been searching on the web and found couple of articles talking about this issue. I've tried some of them like: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887993 or even this one: http://groups.google.ca/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.reportingsvcs/browse_frm/thread/991c9178ceab8f58/8f1a447aa60ad837?lnk=st&q=reporting+services+the+server+is+not+responding&rnum=3&hl=en#8f1a447aa60ad837
But this doesn't work.
I've checked both event viewer both web server and SQL server, but I can't see any information that tell me what had happened.
I also look at BOL, but doesn't help much.
Is there anyone can help me or point me to the right direction? Is there any guide document that explains step-by-step how to install SSRS in my scenario or similiar?
Many Thanks,
Usman Tjiudri
I have the exact same issue in a identical envirnonment configuration. Did you get this resolved?
I`m looking at a few articles re Kerberos....
|||Hi,Yes, finally I got this issue resolved.
After looking for answer almost everywhere, I finally turn to Microsoft Support and they gave me a very quick response (less than 24 hours).
Before I talk about the solution, I need to clarify something here - my environment is Win2003 Server R2 (not Win2003 SP1 as mentioned in previous email) - may be there's a SP1 for R2.
The issue is caused by IIS. Apparently R2 has different version of IIS with normal Win2003 Server.
You need to uninstall completely IIS on your server (may be you need to backup IIS metadata) and install IIS for R2. You can get the software from R2 disc.
If you still can't solve the issue, log it to Microsoft Support.
Let me know how it goes.
Hope This Help,

Check out the Setup log files located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files for more information about setup problems. You should also check the summary.txt file that is one directory up as that frequently points to the log where you will find the problem listed.

Installing SQL Server Desktop Engine & Enterprise Manager
"MSDE2000A.exe".
Then, thinking I needed "sql2ksp3.exe" to install Enterprise Manager, I
attempted to install that.
But, I got an error message: "SQL Server 2000 is not installed on this
machine. Setup will now exit".
So, obviously the error message is wrong, as I did install SQL Server 2000.
So, don't know what to do.
One thing that may be affecting this is that when doing the S.S. 2000
install, I had to do it via a DOS window in order to set a flag for what's
called an "SA" password. And I was thinking that maybe that's affecting the
subsequent attempt to install Enterprise Manager?
I'm running WinXP Professional with SP2 on my PC.
A thought...since I really don't have SQL Server 2000 installed, but instead
the Desktop version, maybe "sql2ksp3.ext" is the wrong file?
Thanks.Hi,
Did you install MSDE SP3?
From the file name "sql2ksp3.exe", I think it's not the appropariate
release. The SP3 name for MSDE is sql2kdesksp3.exe.
You can download it from:

That's Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2000. Enterprise Manager comes on the

You installed SQL Server 2000 Desktop (MSDE). That is not the same as the
"proper" SQL Server (Standard and Enterprise).

If you want Enterprise Manager, you'll need to buy SQL Server. The
Desktop/MSDE version doesn't come with a GUI management tool. I'm not sure
if the SQL Server Express 2005 Management Studio GUI will work with Desktop
2000, if it does then you could use that.

so, is that the desktop version of sql server, or is it the 'full' version?
and if it's the full version, I'd prefer to leave it installed, I guess, and
then install Enterprise Manager for it.

Thanks for your post.
I tried the link again and can get access the web. The sql2kdesksp3.exe
package for downloading locates under the page below.
I recommend that you check wheter or not the url is devided into two lines.
If so, you need to combine the two lines into one line url.
You can install SQL Enterprise Mnager with MSDE2000, however, you need to
install it with named instance.
It's only allowed only one default instance installed on one server.
Sincerely yours,

so, is that the desktop version of sql server, or is it the 'full' version?
and if it's the full version, I'd prefer to leave it installed, I guess, and
then install Enterprise Manager for it.
so, how do I do that?
thanks.

Sincerely yours,
Charles Wang

Installing SQL Server 2005 on same machine as an existing SQL Sever 2000 instance
Any experiance of doing this or a pointer to a Microsoft recommendation would be appreciated.
The SQL Server 2005 Books Online (downloaded version) has a section onWorkingwith Multiple Versions of SQL Server which indicates that SQL 2005 canbe installed as a named instance alongside SQL Server 7 and/or SQLServer 2000.
Some feedback from where this has been done would be very much appreciated.
|||From various training material for SQL 2005, it would seem that it ispreferable to have at least 512 Mb of RAM above that required by theoperating system. Whilst it will install (with protest) on a machinewith a total of 256 Mb RAM, a minimum realistic amount of memory forits host server would be 1 Gb of RAM.

integrate report manager in an asp.net application
I thought I can probably find out how the report manager works and create a similar application so that I can define my own things in there.
Looks like there is no sample where I could get a lead. Now I have decided if I can include the report manager in a new aspx page in my application and disable the stuff which is not required by the user to look at it.
I can definitely include the report manager url in the Iframe but how do I disable the stuff from the report manager.
Please help, I am having real hard time.
Thanks in advance.
There is no way that I know of to customize report manager and include its functionality in your own app like you would a control.
Have you looked at the report viewer web control? If you need to integrate report viewing and report export capability in your asp.net application, it is very powerful. You could use this, along with the available Web services in reporting services to build your own version of the report manager in asp.net with most, if not all of the same functionality.

installing sql server 2000
im new to sql server 2000. After I install it on my xp machine, I tried
starting
the server by clicking on the service manager. I got the following error.
"service could not start due to logon failure". I then went into enterprise
manager, selected the service group, and selected new server registration.
In there I was told the instance of my server is already registered. Does
anyone know what I can do next?
Hello,
The SQL server needs to do "log on" an account of
administrator, verifies that your account has the necessary privileges
or places the correct account in the properties of the service, for
that you have to go to the services of your PC and look for
service MSSQLSERVER then in properties go to the tab Log On, and select the
option "Log on as: This account " then fill the box with the correct
account...

Installing SQL Reporting Services on 2 Tiers
Services on an applications tier behind a firewall. The install program
automatically installs Report Manager and Services on the same box, but it
seems that the Manager is only a UI for calling the Services which are web
services. We would like to call the services from the web tier through 443
on the firewall to the application tier. Can anyone provide assistance on if
and how we could install Reporting Services as mentioned above?
Thanks!Report Manager and Reporting Services are both asp.net application. As you
noted Report Manager is essentially a portal. Report Manager and Reporting
Services must be on the same box. However, Reporting Services and the
database do not need to be on the same box.
So, if you are planning on using Report Manager portal as the UI to
Reporting Services, then what you want to do is not possible (separating the
two). If, however, you are planning on using your own web page then it is
possible. There are two ways to integrate, web services and URL integration.
URL integration however only works if the Report Server is visible to the
client, which, again, is not what you want. You would need to use web
services to integrate with your own web site.
