Installing SSRS report designer with Visual Studio 2005

I have VS 2005 installed on my workstation. I have Sql Server 2005 on a
database server, and
just installed Reporting Services on a web server.
How do I install the Report Services report designer on my workstation in VS
2005?

Besides the slip of the keyboard, which disk are you referring to? When I
try to use the Sql Server 2005 disk, the Reporting Services option is grayed
out (presumably because I don't have IIS installed on my workstation?).

Bob M..|||I do not not what kind of disk your SQL Server2005 is on. I have heard it
may be on 2 CDs or 1 DVD. Mine is from MSDN subscription, which has two
setup.exe - one for the server part and one for client tools part.
Whatever you have, you should install client components only, including
Connectivity components, Management tools, Business Intelligence Development
Studio (this is what you need!), SDK, documentation... You do not need to
install RS for report designing, unless you want to.

Installing SSRS Dev Ed on Vista

I cannot get RS to install on Vista. I have a clean install of Vista with
IIS 7 installed. I was not getting the option to install SSRS when I first
installed Sql Server. I installed SP2 and still cannot get the SSRS option
to show up. How do I get SSRS installed?

Jimif nothing is possible just go to the CD and search for sql_rs.exe setup file
try installing directly. Search this file in the setup folder.

Reporting Services for SQL Server2000 was released long after SQL
Server2000. Usually it is a seperate installation (after SQL Server2000
installed) and on a seperate CD/installation package. SO, you need to find
the dick with SSRS2000 in it.

I read online that installing SP2 CTP that RS works - but I cannot figure out
how to install it.

Installing SSRS 2005 on Windows XP Pro

I want to run SSRS 2K5 on a windows XP pro workstation. Is this possible as I have tried several times but no luck. Cannot connect to the website http://servername/reports from internet explorer 7.

Make sure you have IIS and Sql Server Agent running and actually insert your server name into the address (eg http://localhost/reports).

I am installing SSRS 2005 with the following scenario:

- Report Server and Report Manager will be installed on web server

- The repository databases (ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB) will be hosted in SQL2005 cluster server.

When I try to browse the ReportServer virtual directory from IIS on the web server, the system keep asking username and password. After 3 times trials and it failed eventhough the username and password is correct.

The error message is:

HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

I've been searching on the web and found couple of articles talking about this issue. Yes, finally I got this issue resolved.
After looking for answer almost everywhere, I finally turn to Microsoft Support and they gave me a very quick response (less than 24 hours).
Before I talk about the solution, I need to clarify something here - my environment is Win2003 Server R2 (not Win2003 SP1 as mentioned in previous email) - may be there's a SP1 for R2.
The issue is caused by IIS. Apparently R2 has different version of IIS with normal Win2003 Server.
You need to uninstall completely IIS on your server (may be you need to backup IIS metadata) and install IIS for R2. You can get the software from R2 disc.
If you still can't solve the issue, log it to Microsoft Support.

Let me know how it goes.

Authority\Network Service". That account is in both RSEXEC roles in
ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB. When we log into the Report Server
website as a domain name (which on the server has admin rights), it works
fine. When we log into ReportServer using SQL Authentication using a testname
that is on the server, we get the home page with no access to our folder. We
added that id to SQL, we have added that user to RS with full access, we have
tried even adding that to the RSEXEC. No change. We also checked IIS for the
Report folder and it is using Windows Integrated Security. One more thing,
the dataset is using the aspnet login. When we make the person an
administrator on the server - it works fine. Of course that options is not
feasible. Any ideas of what we missed?You are confusing two different things. First, who the user is and what the
credentials to retrieve the data for the report are.
This is completely two different things (although they can be the same).
When you go to the website it is using the integrated windows security that
identifies who the user is that is on the computer which is accessing
Reporting Services. This has nothing whatsoever to do with SQL
Authentication. That is strictly for credentials of the data source.
My suggestion is this. First read up on roles. Roles are used to give access
to the folders, reports, reporting functionality like deploying reports and
subscriptions. Plan how you want to organize and give access. What I do
because it is easiest for me, I create a local group that I add individual
domain users and domain groups to. Then I give this group role membership in
Reporting Services.
Next I run SQL Server in mixed mode security (which I think you are already
doing). I setup a login that is a read only login. I use that for the
credentials of the data source. This buys you performance as well. It allows
connection pooling to work its magic.

fixed this morning - we had not given security to the home folder. But I
still have one more question for you. We do understand a bit about the roles
(but are still learning) but when you talk about the groups are you talking
about a Windows group on the server or something else?

>|||I am talking about a local Windows group. In my case I found it easier to
assign all the different domain groups to a local windows group and then use
that when I was assigning rights in Reporting Services.
