Integrate VSS with SQL 2005

Is there a way to compare a script in Visual source safe with sql 2005 stored procedure without scripting out the stored procedure from sql? I usaually script out a stored procedure from sql to a .sql file and compare it with a script in VSS and I was wondering if anyone know a faster way to compare SPs in production server with VSS. I am using sql management studio and also added all SPs to VSS thru management studio. Thanks.

Hi,

the best application for this is the Visual Studio for Database professionals. The sources used here can be integrated with a Visual Source safe provider. You can easily compare two database /the actual project in schema as well as in the data.

Integrate SQL Server Management Studio with Sharepoint

Our IT production support team stores miscellaneous SQL scripts for support
items on a SharePoint server (WSS 3). However, to edit these scripts, the
user must save a local copy of the file, make the change and then re-upload
it, ensuring the name is the same. This triggers SharePoint to create a new
version of that script.
Is there an easier way to integrate the SQL 2005 Management Studio with
Sharepoint - maybe make it more like you are using SourceSafe, where you
have a project file with scripts in it and you can right click to Check Out,
Check In, etc?
Hi,
I noticed that you also have a post regarding this issue in

Integrate Service Pack

Hi,
With Windows XP and its Service Pack 2, one is able to run the service pack
at the command line with an -integrate option, and it will update an RTM
Windows XP install file set to an SP2 Windows XP install file set.
Do the SQL Server service packs have the -integrate option?

Integrate Reports in ASP.Net Web Form

Hi,
I have my reports at http:\\localhost\ReportServer and need to use them in
ASP.NET Web Form.I have a few questions reg. this
--> I want to generate a PDF when a button labeled "Generate Report" is
clicked"
(1) I tried this using the below code:
Dim myResponse As Byte()
Dim url As String = http://localhost/reportserver?/Reports/Sales
Invoice&ORDER_ID=1879&rs:Format=PDF
Dim myWebClient As New WebClient
myWebClient.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
myResponse = myWebClient.DownloadData(url)
Response.ContentType = "application/pdf"
Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=Sales
Invoice.PDF")
Response.BinaryWrite(myResponse)
But got the error "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden"
I have included "<identity impersonate="true"/>" in Web.Config File.
This Error is because the Credentials is null. I don't know why the
credentials are null even after I use myWebClient.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
The same code works if I Create new Credentials specifying UserName and
Password. But I am cannot specify Username and password. The Application has
take the credentials from the server.
(2) Why can't I use the following one line of code(This works, I want to
know are there any kind issues with
this)Response.Redirect(http://localhost/reportserver?/Reports/Sales
Invoice&ORDER_ID=1879&rs:Format=PDF)
(3) What are other ways to integrate reports with ASP.NET Web Form.
(4)I need to deploy the Reports that I created in my machine to the server
I tried to deploy setting TargetServerURL=http://servername/ReportServer in
Project Properties, but got the error
"The permissions granted to user are insufficient for performing this
operation". What kind of permissions are required.
(5)What are different ways to deploy Reports on a Server.It sounds like you are running into the double hop issue. You can not make
an impersonated call to another machine if you are currently impersonated,
unless the machines trust one another. You would need to set up Kerberos to
get the machines to trust each other.

Log on to the machine to which you are tryiong to deploy , open the report

Reponse.Redirect works fine for me. also have you tried using report viewer

integrate report manager in an asp.net application

I thought I can probably find out how the report manager works and create a similar application so that I can define my own things in there.

Looks like there is no sample where I could get a lead. Now I have decided if I can include the report manager in a new aspx page in my application and disable the stuff which is not required by the user to look at it.

I can definitely include the report manager url in the Iframe but how do I disable the stuff from the report manager.

Please help, I am having real hard time.

Thanks in advance.

There is no way that I know of to customize report manager and include its functionality in your own app like you would a control.

Have you looked at the report viewer web control? If you need to integrate report viewing and report export capability in your asp.net application, it is very powerful. You could use this, along with the available Web services in reporting services to build your own version of the report manager in asp.net with most, if not all of the same functionality.

Integrate PowerPoint and Reporting Services?

I am trying to move many of our group's monthly report functions from
Excel workbooks to a common Reporting Services environment, so data
will be visible to everyone at the end of the reporting period.
However, some of these slides have found their way into committee
meetings, which are driven entirely out of PowerPoint presentations.
I am being hit with a request to merge RS Reports with the existing
PowerPoint presentations. Unfortunately, while RS does render to the
screen, there is no easy way to copy the output to a file at a quality
level equivalent to what we had.
Right now, I can save my reports to Excel, then copy-paste the Range
into PowerPoint, but many times the built-in export fails to render
like the Report shows the data on the screen, often including cell
borders in Excel that were not specified in the HTML as well as other
spacing weirdness.
* Is there way I can include an embedded object in PowerPoint that
references a ReportViewer that pulls from the Reporting Server? The
Include Object menu in PP does not list this as an option.
* Is there a way to build a custom Render function to output the whole
page to a WMF (Windows MetaFile) format?

I can't speak directly to your scenario; however, you could either try
creating a custom renderer to render in Power Point from SSRS/
Reporting Services (http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/05/02/
CustomRenderers/default.aspx ) -or- you could purchase a third party
tool (http://www.downloadjunction.com/product/software/135002/

Integrate my app

I wish sqlserver can send me a mail automatically after completing one job,there are alerts and notifications in job properties,which can perform my need? Previously,i defined database mail,but failed

who can tell me which is appropriate way?

TIA

I saw your different threads in the groups, did you manage to setup database mail, this should be the first point where we should start.

Integrate more than one SSIS packages into one package

Hi

I'm new to SSIS field.

I'm importing data from flat files to sql server 2005 through SSIS packages.

I have around 30 packages which transfers data from flat files to corresponding database tables.

I want a single package that will run all the 30 packages by running that single package.

Like in a single stored procedure we can run multiple stored procedure, I want the same solutions for my packages.

Is there any method which can solve the above issue?

Please kindly guide me .

Its urgent. please reply soon.

Thanks in advance.

Hi priyanka,

You could use the Execute Package Task to call your other packages on one "mother" package. You can find it in your Toolbox under Control Flow Items.|||

Hello Jon;

Thanks a lot for your quick response.Your reply gave me a lot of knowledge, but still I'm in problem. By using Execute Package Task I can run any existing package, which is previously created.But I have Two queries.

1. It will run the package which contain the last flat file as data source, here my question is how to add a new flat file(since my flat file changes monthly) while running the package using "mother" package.I guess you got my point. Secondly,

2. By solving the point no.1 will not also solve my problem. As my requirement is , I want one package, on running this all other packages saved in one folder should be run automatically. I want to say that instead of running all packages one by one, I want to run them by one single package.

Thanks a lot again and eagerly waiting for your reply.

Thanks

Priyanka

|||

Hello Jon,

Sorry for disturbing again. I got the solution to point no-1. If possible help me for point no. 2, Where by running one mother package I can execute all other child projects.

Thanks

Priyanka

|||You can actually have them execute all at the same time by NOT connecting them to each other with the control flow arrow connectors. The packages will then execute all stand-alone tasks at the same time.

Try to experiment this first with 3 to 5 Execute Package Task objects. You'll see that they'll turn yellow (executing) all at the same time.

I hope I understood your problem correctly.|||

Thanks a lot. You are really a very nice person.

The above points solved my problem.Now I can run all the packages at a time.That was my requirement.

But it is fine if I'll run this in my machine. If I want to send the package to the client , who require to run the package to update the database at his end(He wants to run only one package. I can give him all the child packages and the mother package after running them at my end).But how he will be able to set the path for source flat file connection and destination sql server database connection.

In the Execute Package Task , is there any option where I can change the source and destination of each package, or is there any other way?

Thanks a lot again...

priyanka

Priyanka,

To facilitate deployment in different environments, SSIS can use 'Package Configurations' that basically allows you to store package's property values outside of the package to be applied at run time; overriding the values given at design time. Such configuration values can reside in a table, XML file, environment variables, etc. I think using package configuration will solve the problem of deploying the packages at your client location. Search on this forum and the web and you will find a lot of good information for that.

|||Rafael is right on about package configurations.

You can find info on this here, here and here.|||Oh, and one more tip. If the "mother" and "children" packages are all in one folder, you may try to totally omit the absolute path of the child packages in their connectionstrings and leave just the file name. That would make the "mother" package search for the "child" package in the same folder as it is running.

Goodluck |||

Hello;

Package configuration not working.

In my project I 've one Mother package and 10 child packages.I've added the package configuration to all the child packages.
I ve created XML type package configuration.
In all the package configurations I've checked the Connection Manegers checked boxes.
But while I'm trying to run the Mother package, its throughing error as bellow

"Error: Error 0xC0012050 while loading package file "E:\Visual Studio 2005\TestPackage\PackageWithConfig\Integration Services Project1\Integration Services Project1\Divisions.dtsx". Package failed validation from the ExecutePackage task. The package cannot run."

Without using package configuration, its working fine.
Can you please tell me the entire flow of process with package configuration?

Thanks
Priyanka

|||

That is weird. It seems like you create a new set of children packages in a different location; make sure you are not missing something on that new set of files. Try to execute a single child package without calling it from the master package, just to check that is not something else.

There are a lot of posts and other good information about package configurations on line:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=SSIS+package+configurations&spell=1

|||Can you look for the message where the package fails in validation?|||

Thanks.

The issue has been resolved.Actually I was not concern about the security issue for password, that was missing in the dtsConfig file. By giving the password , it is now working fine.

Thanks to all of u.

|||

Is there any better approach to integrate packages into one package?

My target is to create a single package , by running this will run all the child packages.In the above process I've to change the flat file source path each time by searching it from the Xml file(Package configuration file) , which is a time consuming and boring process.I have a number of child files.So for each file searching for source path in Package configuration file is not an interesting approach.

Anyways I have to set the source path but is there any other easier and fast approach to achieve this.

Thanks.

You know you can create several copies of the XML configuration file and then simply copy whichever one you need to the "real" xml config file.... Then you don't have to spend time editing the files. Just create them once and copy whichever one you need at the time.

integrate micosoft project into MS SQL

hi all, would like to ask for help...is anyone know how save the ms project into database, is it possible to save it into MSSQL.

i am just a new beginner..thanks in advanced.

-Myra-

Microsoft produce Project Central which does what you are asking for.

|||

thx for the reply...but how can we insert the value of microsoft project into MS SQL? have to use the tools?if not den how?

|||

actually what i want to do is that, i need to insert the value of microsoft project created into a database, then, i plan to use asp.net 2.0 to code it and manipulate the data of the microsoft project in database, like edit, delete and print, do u guys know the way?thx a lot again..

|||

Are you just trying to store it as a binary file? If so, you can easily save and restore it, hoever the manipulation of it will be very difficult.

Have you looked at Project Central? That stores the data as collection of data rather than as a single BLOB Other than the schema is non-intuitive, the data is in principal capable of being manipulated by an ASP.NET site.

|||

i have look through the project central, but my os is actually window xp which is incompatible with the requirement..

Integrate in SQL Server 2000

I want to integrate tool in SQL server 2000.
Ex. add more the approximate search or fuzzy search to get well results.
please show me, what do?There are different "fuzzy search" algorithms, depending upon exactly what you want to do. None are built in SQL Server, so you have to program them yourself with TSQL. (Note, there may be some available through analysis services.)

integrate google map into reporting services report

Google Maps has an API described at http://www.google.com/apis/maps/ .
It would be nice to include the map within the report. I've achieved to
pass coordinates to the map though the map will start in a new window.
To achieve an integrated map I need to paste some javascript code as
described
within
http://www.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/ .
In what part of the xml code is it possible to paste the javascript
code and achieve a highly integrated webpage?Have you had any luck with this? I'd love to be able to do this exact same
thing, and am curious if you got it to work.

Integrate changes into MSDE Database?

I have a module that requires modifcation to the database. How do I adopt the following instructuions for use with MSDE?

1. Create a MSSQL structure.
2. Open a query anylizer and copy the CreateDB.SQL file. Run it.

Thanks,
ScottYou should be able to use the osql.exe utility. To run the CreateDB.SQL file, you can go to the Windows command prompt, go to the directory containing the .SQL file, and issue a command such as:

osql -E -i CreateDB.SQL

Terri|||Thanks for responding Terri.

I have created a seperate MSDE for each on the Starter Kits I'm tinkering with. When I run CreateDB, do I need to specify which MSDE?
