When intalling SQL Server 2005 Express this gives me the message:
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service forserver configuration. which I don't get since I have SQL Server 2000 Dev Edtion running,Win 2K sp4. I couldn't find anything in the MS KB to explain why it'sdoing so.. anything I missed perhaps?

Installing/Configuration
Hi,
I'm
pretty new to this reporting services thing. I've installed it on my PC
and it runs fine. However, other PCs on my LAN can't access the reports
through their browser. I think there is an issue with IIS also involved
because they cannot even browse to the default website on my PC. There
may also be some security related issues as well (with IIS, Reporting
Services and my SQL Server 2005 database).
Is there any step
by step guide on how to configure all these three things properly for
remote access available that anyone can recommend?
Or can anyone give me advice?

Does the URL use the IP addy or machine name when they try to access the default website? If uses the machine name, try the IP address.
Are you on a workgroup or domain?
Can they ping your machine by name?
Is there an explicit error in the browser other than 404 not found?
What is the security model being used in IIS: Anonymous, IWA (integrated windows authentication)?
These are just a few questions to get us going in the right direction

Installing SQLExpress on XPHome
The software install hangs when the install goes out to check for my machine configuration.
No error codes or anything. I have to go to task manager to stop the install. It may can take two or three times to End Task before the setup actually stops.

Check out the Setup log files located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files for more information about setup problems. You should also check the summary.txt file that is one directory up as that frequently points to the log where you will find the problem listed.

In the end of the file it says something about IIS, it looks like this:

EDIT:
After uninstalling, cleaning registry and restarting for about 40 times I found an old CD with SQL Server 2000 Evaluation Copy.
When trying to install this I get the error "A previous program installation created pending file operations on the installation machine. You must restart the computer before running setup."
When I restart I see no improvent...

Installing SQL Server Reporting Services
Hi All,
I have just installed SQL Server Reporting Services and done the settings on Reporting Services Configuration.
The Server Status is 'green ticked' and it is Running, the Report Server Virtual Directory, Report Manager Virtual Directory, Windows Service Identity, Web Service Identity and Database Setup are all setup and 'green ticked'
But when I go to the Reports in IE:http://localhost/Reports I get the following error:
The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer.
I have googled this but do not seems to have a suitable solution for me. Please help.

From the error message you provided, do you run your Reporting Service on Vista?
Since Reporting Services SP1 and earlier do not run on Windows Vista, you need to install SP2 for reporting service.
If you try to run an SP1 report server on Windows Vista, you will encounter the following errors:

First: Stop Reporting Services
Second: Restart IIS
Third: Start Reporting Services
Then try browsinghttp://localhost/reports and it worked.

Installing SQL Server 2005 Express
Downloaded the program and followed the instructions (as vague as they are) the only thing I see to execute is the configuration tools. I am certain I have missed something. Can anyone assist?

SQL Server Express, like most independent database systems these days does not run as a visual application the way Internet Explorer or Notepad do, instead it runs automatically behind the scenes as a system service.
Have you tried to connect to the already running instance on your PC with a version of Visual Studio (including Express)? Have you tried to connect to it with one of the included management tools?
Also, be sure to grab a copy of SQL Server Management Studio Express from the SQL Express download page to give you even more management options.
