Hi! I have SQL 2000 server with several instance. Every instance start own
sqlservr.exe task on Task Manager. Now one of sqlservr.exe is take 100% CPU
time, but I don't know to which instance it belongs?

I just install msde SQL2kdesksp3.exe and also WebMatrix.To use WebMatrix and manage database, i need something like: myservername\instancename to connect but how do i know my instance name ?i found, i needed to reboot. actually i can connect with my SERVERNAME but can i use my IP address instead SERVERNAME cause i would like to connect remotly. MSDE and Webmatrix are installed in my Windows 2003 Server and i would like to connect that database remotly.

installtion file for SQL CE 2.0 to install in Real PocketPC
HI,
i have one instalation file of SQL CE 2.0 named setup.exe ,i installed that in my desktop it works well.i could not install the same file inside the pocketPC.Can any one give me some information about how to get the installation file of SQL CE 2.0 and how to install that in real pocketPC.Thanks in advance.

Not having worked with SQL CE 2.0 (available here) for a while I would assume that it follows the same pattern as the current verion which is that the installer is to be run on the desktop NOT the device. After running the installer either the runtime dlls or a mobile installer will be available - you should also read the ReadMe and consider installing the books online (available locally after installing the main SQL CE 2.0 installer)

Installing SQL Server Desktop Engine & Enterprise Manager
I downloaded and successfully installed SQL Server 2000 Desktop edition via
"MSDE2000A.exe".
Then, thinking I needed "sql2ksp3.exe" to install Enterprise Manager, I
attempted to install that.
But, I got an error message: "SQL Server 2000 is not installed on this
machine. Setup will now exit".
So, obviously the error message is wrong, as I did install SQL Server 2000.
So, don't know what to do.
One thing that may be affecting this is that when doing the S.S. 2000
install, I had to do it via a DOS window in order to set a flag for what's
called an "SA" password. And I was thinking that maybe that's affecting the
subsequent attempt to install Enterprise Manager?
I'm running WinXP Professional with SP2 on my PC.
A thought...since I really don't have SQL Server 2000 installed, but instead
the Desktop version, maybe "sql2ksp3.ext" is the wrong file?

release. The SP3 name for MSDE is sql2kdesksp3.exe.

You installed SQL Server 2000 Desktop (MSDE). That is not the same as the
"proper" SQL Server (Standard and Enterprise).

If you want Enterprise Manager, you'll need to buy SQL Server. The
Desktop/MSDE version doesn't come with a GUI management tool. I'm not sure
if the SQL Server Express 2005 Management Studio GUI will work with Desktop
2000, if it does then you could use that.

I recommend that you check wheter or not the url is devided into two lines.
If so, you need to combine the two lines into one line url.
You can install SQL Enterprise Mnager with MSDE2000, however, you need to
install it with named instance.
It's only allowed only one default instance installed on one server.

I recommend that you check wheter or not the url is devided into two lines.
If so, you need to combine the two lines into one line url.
You can install SQL Enterprise Mnager with MSDE2000, however, you need to
install it with named instance.
It's only allowed only one default instance installed on one server.

Then, thinking I needed "sql2ksp3.exe" to install Enterprise Manager, I

But, I got an error message: "SQL Server 2000 is not installed on this
machine. Setup will now exit".
So, obviously the error message is wrong, as I did install SQL Server 2000.
So, don't know what to do.
One thing that may be affecting this is that when doing the S.S. 2000
install, I had to do it via a DOS window in order to set a flag for what's
called an "SA" password. And I was thinking that maybe that's affecting the
subsequent attempt to install Enterprise Manager?
I'm running WinXP Professional with SP2 on my PC.
A thought...since I really don't have SQL Server 2000 installed, but instead
the Desktop version, maybe "sql2ksp3.ext" is the wrong file?

You installed SQL Server 2000 Desktop (MSDE). That is not the same as the
"proper" SQL Server (Standard and Enterprise).

If you want Enterprise Manager, you'll need to buy SQL Server. The
Desktop/MSDE version doesn't come with a GUI management tool. I'm not sure
if the SQL Server Express 2005 Management Studio GUI will work with Desktop
2000, if it does then you could use that.

installing SQL Express via commandline
So, I read this thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=416220&SiteID=1, which suggested that I could call SQLEXPR32.EXE (the SP2 download) with the relevant commandline args in exactly the same way I could call setup.exe. Namely, if I were to call:

Would be great to get some help on this. I'm equally happy with the set of commands I need to call in order to extract SQLEXPR32 and then run setup, but SQLEXPR32 seems to extract to a random GUID dir, and automatically start setup, neither of which is condusive to automating it.

I just tested an installation as following:

sorry, I've misread your post, but my test actually worked as expected... so the following question comes to mind.. is the setting file available and present in the target file system in order to be consumed by the setup?

I am working with this exact process right now for an installation project in my office. In order to use the command line parameters you first have to extract the SQLEXPR32.EXE file by typing something such as c:\(dirname)\SQLEXPR32.EXE /X
Setup will then prompt you for a place to extract the files and you can then use the SETUP.EXE command from that folder with the /SETTINGS option. Hope this helps.

I'm attempted to run an installation of SQL Express 2005 from the
command prompt. I've downloaded the redistributable SQLEXPR32.EXE and
now want to get my hands on setup.exe, template.ini, etc.. that I will
run from the command prompt. I can see them being created in a
temporary folder when I launch SQLEXPR32.EXE, but they cannot be
accessed or copied because they are in use, and when I quit the GUI
installer all the files disappear.

Also if the install had failed earlier it is necessary to go to Add/Remove
programs and clean outany Microsoft SQL progams before re-running this.
One culprit is "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client" that remains after a
failed install.

Also if the install had failed earlier it is necessary to go to Add/Remove
programs and clean outany Microsoft SQL progams before re-running this.
One culprit is "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client" that remains after a
failed install.

I have scraped this maching clean and still get the residue beta version exception. Got any clues to find this stuff that exist on my machine- XP home addtion
In the note log it says Watson failed.
Try the following.
1. Uninstall all visible Beta components in Add/Remove Programes.
2. Detect the Beta components infromation in the the log file located in %Program Files%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files\SQLSetup_%machinename%_Core(Local).log.
3. Search the whole registry keys, remove those registy keys related to those Beta components. This is time-consuming.
4. Kill all Beta SQL Services (including SQL, OLAP, RS, SQLBROWSER, SQLAGENT, etc.) if they are existing with command sc.
5. Reboot the machine.
6. Start Setup again.
Or you can send me email so I can send a script for you to clean beta components.

How do I get past this and get the Studio installed?

Installing SQL 2005 Express and attaching database from CD
Hi there,
I have created an .iss file which when compiled creates a setup.exe file on a cd rom. Within the .iss I have extracted the sqlexpress files out so that it will install straight from disk to the users machine rather than from the .msi file. All this has been successful so far....
My problem is:- I want to attach a database to the an instance of sqlexpress on the users machine. I have detached it from SQL Server 2000 and copied it over to the cd. The setup file copies these over the users hard drive. I have looked through many forums etc and the words that keep popping up are:-
sqlcmd.exe
template.ini
type into the command prompt.
Sorry if I'm a little ignorant but I am not sure how to go about these. How do I open the command prompt on the users machine from CD? Do I have to create something to do this?
Any information would be appreciated, any guidance or scripts would be great.

That depends how you do your copy job to copy the database to the folder. If you just copy it over you can just append another line with using the SQLCMD -Q"sp_attachdb ..... using the path to you already copied the file of the database to.Jens K. Suessmeyer.

I am using SQL 2000 Developers Edition with sp2
trying to install sp3a because it is a prereq for reporting services.
I installed sql2ksp3.exe. Everything seems to install fine and a messagebox
is

I restarted sql then ran the @.@. version query and still sp2
I restarted Window, then ran the query again with the same result
What my next step?

AFAIK @.@.version gives you the SP of the OS, not of the SQL Server. What do
you get if you run
SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('ProductLevel')
?

|||It only installed the setup locally, now you need to run the setup. The
default setup install location is c:\sql2ksp3

In your first post you did not mention version number, but you metioned
service pack explicitly, and @.@.version returns explicit service pack of the
OS.
