installtion program dies when installing Native Client

it's my laptop, i try to install sql server 2005. the installation program dies at the first stage.
the program seem cant finish the Native Client installation and stops for ever. theres no error msg.
the installation program works well on my desktop. does anyone knows what goes wrong?
Did you install any SQL Beta on the machine ? Then you will first have to deinstall and run the cleanup utility on your laptop. If not, try to install the SNAC client from a standalone installer.

Can you check C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Log\Summary.txt

and post the error message

Also go inside the subfolder files and look for _snac.log

Thanks

Installing the cumulative hotfix onto Express

So today I decided I may as well put the latest hotfix package for Sql 2005 onto my laptop.

Unlike SP1 the hotfix actually seemed to know about SQL Express and attempt to install itself only to collapse in a big heap. The log file indicates it can't find a bunch of files it wants to patch.

So how do I apply the hotfixes to Express?

If the upgrade or hotfix fails, it makes a bunch of entries in the System and Application event logs, and also has a log of it's own. The hotfix tells you where the log file is located when it starts.

Installing SQL Server Express

Please tell me what I am missing here. I've got an XP Pro machine with SQL Server Express running and a laptop with XP running the Management Studio Express. This is on my home network which is wireless. I can't see any databases on the XP Pro machine from the laptop. Is there something besides just installing SQL Server that I need to do? I've checked forums, documentation and co-workers but no luck.

Thanks in advance

You can not access SQL Express over the network. For that you need at least SQL Developer edition

Thanks! That saves a lot of grief.

Installing SQL Server 2005 on Vista...

I am having the absolute worst luck installing SQL 2005 developers edition on my windows vista laptop. In class we have been using SQL 2000, but I bought a new laptop that has vista home premium preloaded so I need to use 2005 (says the solution analyzer). I have loaded all the IIS services and tried to install the first CD (it never asks for the 2nd one. During the system configuration check i get an "edition change check" waring and a "IIS feature requirement" warning. Once the install completes I cant find the query analyzer or any other SQL applications, just the configuration tools folder. I have tried running the latest service pack with no luck. I have visual studio loaded 2005 loaded as well and didnt have any issues with that, could anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance!

1. IIS warning message indicates that IIS is still configured correctly. Please double check whether you do check "IIS Backward Compatibility", which is required. In addition, IIS is required only if you want to install Reporting Sevices (RS). If RS will not be installed. You can ignore this information.

2. "Edition change check" message indicates that you have SQL Server 2005 products installed with version higher than SQL Server 2005 RTM. For example, you have installed SQL Server 2005 Express SP1. Please go to Control Panel --> Programs and Features, check whether "Microsoft SQLServer 2005" exists. Click on "Change" followed by "Report". You can see all of the SQL Server 2005 components has been installed on your machine.

3. If the second CD is not used, it means that you do not select Client components during setup. Or it is already installed in SQL Server 2005 Express SP1 (or SP2).

|||Where is the check for "IIS Backward Compatibility"?|||

In Vista,

1. Control Panel

2. Program Features

3. Turn Windows features on or off

4. Expand Internet Information Services

5. Expand Web Management Tools

6. Watch whether IIS 6 Management Compatibility is selected.

I had the exact same problems you are having.

Take a look at this thread:

|||I have Windows Vista Home Premium installed. IIS with all its feature/components are installed on the system.

When I run the setup of SQL server 2005 standard or enterprise edition, I get the warning message that IIS7 is not installed. If I proceed, I don't get the option to install any server components.

I have crossed checked all IIS features are installed and I am able to open http://localhost also.

Does anybody know whats the problem?

I have not yet got SQL Server to install without the warning about IIS. IIS 7 does not have the same signature nor does it have the same version number.

Without knowing what the Setup routine checks for, you will not be able to force the requirement as Success without a lot of playing around it. Normally on a Client OS the version will most likely not show up correctly. Like Windows 2000 and Windows XP. 2000 had 5.0 IIS and XP had 5.1.

Installing SQL Server 2005 on Vista Business

I've been attempting to install SQL 2005 Standar on my Vista Business laptop. I am able to install all the components except for Reporting Services - the checkbox for it is disabled. I have installed/activated IIS, so I don't know why this option is still unavailable to me. Can anyone assist me?

Thanks in advance!

I found my answer here:

Make sure that the components listed at the bottom of the article are installed.

Installing SQL Server 2005 Express Edition alongside SQL Server?

This should not be a problem, SQL Express and SQL Server 2000 can co-exist
as different instances. Running two instances will use more resources, so
make sure that your machine is going to have enough power to run both
instances and still do other work!
If you only occasionally need SQL 2005, then you may want to consider using
virtual machines.

Installing sql notification service

Hello, I'm trying to install sql notification service on my laptop, but its giving me an error saying that the .net framework should be installed. I have the .net framework 1.1 and vs.net 2003 installed. Any one have any ideas what would cause this??The error is from dumb Install Shield installer that will not detect what is already installed in the box because the stupid application goes to Install Shield website to extract the file it thinks it needs. If you say no it terminates the install operation. Hope this helps.
