installtion program dies when installing Native Client

it's my laptop, i try to install sql server 2005. the installation program dies at the first stage.
the program seem cant finish the Native Client installation and stops for ever. theres no error msg.
the installation program works well on my desktop. does anyone knows what goes wrong?
Did you install any SQL Beta on the machine ? Then you will first have to deinstall and run the cleanup utility on your laptop. If not, try to install the SNAC client from a standalone installer.

Can you check C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Log\Summary.txt

and post the error message

Also go inside the subfolder files and look for _snac.log

Thanks

Vishal

Installting sqlserver 2005 on the client machine for windows application

Hi
I developed a windows application in Visual studio 2005 and the database is sqlexpress.
I wanted my application to run on another system. For that i have installed sqlexpress 2005 on that machine. But that machine doesn't show me any enterprise manager or query manager for sqlserver.
Is there any solution for this.

Thanks

hi,

yes... you have to separately download and install SQL Server Management Studio Express... http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=C243A5AE-4BD1-4E3D-94B8-5A0F62BF7796&displaylang=en

regards

|||SQL Server Express does not come with EM or Query Analyzer. These two components have been merged into the SQL Server Managment Studio. The SQL Server Management Studio Express (which actually is a stripped of SQL Server Managment Studio (aka SSMS)) can be downloaded separately from Microsoft or is already included in the Express Advanced Edition (which actually includes some other cool features like Reporting Services for SQL Server Express).

Hello,

Q: How can I install client without reboot server?

Installing Sql25k client without using CD/DVD?

Hi everyone,

We've found some problems when trying such thing. It seems that is compulsory to do via own CD/DVD.

Any comment would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

enric

How are you trying to do the install? If you share out the DVD/CD to a network drive and maintain the folder structures from the media, you should be able to install just fine.

Thanks,
Sam Lester (MSFT)

Yes, be sure to follow the instructions in this KB, and you should be able to install from a network path or from a hard drive.

Installing SQL to a SAN

Hi
We have a client that wants to implement a SAN to be shared by other
servers.
How do you setup a SQL server to use the SAN array? The client only has one
SQL server (node).
I have implemented SQL onto Active/Active and Active/Passive clustering
before, but i am confuse to just how to install single SQL node to a SAN
array (i.e no failover)
Can anyone give me some pointers please
Regards
James
Use the SAN like you would any drive. Attached it to the machine, and store
your databases and T-logs on it.

Thanks for your relpy. So i am guessing that SQL will detect the SAN as
another drive (once the SAN is attached to the server).

|||James,
Just like traditional SCSI, attaching a server to a SAN requires a
controller. Once installed and the SAN is configured you will see one or
more additional drive letters (a few administrators use mount points but
usually in very large implementations). Before you attach, discuss your
requirements with the SAN administrator.
How much disk do you need for data?
What will the RAID configuration be?
How much for logs?
How much for backups?
Will the SAN be used for SQL backups or mirror splits?
How much for tempdb and so on...
You can keep spreading the activities out with more files, filegroups, and
drives.
Good luck,
Danny

Installing SQL Srv 2005 commandline utilities.

I'm being asked to "install" SQL Server 2005 "client tools" on high
performance compute (HPC) nodes for researchers who use SQL. the 2005 client
is a bit heavy on disk space, etc, etc. and I'm looking for info on how to
install the commandline tools only (that's all they really need).
Is that possible? Is it documented? TIA.

Have you tried running the regular SQL 2005 setup, and in the Advanced
screen try to make a selection that comprises only command-line tools?
I don't remember offhands if there is any such choice.
An alternative would be the SQL Express installation. I believe you
can make a tools-only installation of SQL Express. I expect this to
give you the command-lines tools BCP, SQLCMD and OSQL as well as the
SQL Configuration Manager and the Surface Area Tool. Your users will not
need the latter two, but I would expect them eat that much disk.

Installing SQL Server Reporting Services on SBS 2003 Premium for Dynamics CRM 3.0

We are currently in the process of performing a trial installation of Microsoft Dynamics CRM for a client. In amongst their existing IT infrastructure they have:
SBS 2003 SP1 PremiumServer 2003 StandardWhilst an organisation of their size would usually choose to deploy MS CRM Small Business, they've decided they don't want to install SBS on the same system as their SBS box and instead place it on their server 2003 and therefore we're attempting to install CRM Premium.

One of the requirements of Dynamics CRM 3.0 is SQL Server Reporting services (SRS).

SRS will not install on their server 2003 box, as unbeknownst to us initially, besides running Blackberry server, the machine also appears to be running a full blown instance of Terminal Services which SRS refuses to install alongside.. I even tried change user /install ... change user /execute and this failed.

Then I resolved instead to run SRS on the same machine as their SQLServer - the SBS box.

It didn't find visual studio - fair enough.. We don't want to customise any forms just yet.

It then complained about not being able to find ASP.net 1.1 and that sharepoint services were installed.. I read the notes on sharepoint/SRS co-installs and was satisfied there I knew what needed to be done..

I then attempted to install .net framework 1.1, but was advised it was already present. I then checked IIS manager and indeed ASP.net 1.1 was registered and enabled, whilst 2.0 ASP.net was also installed, but prohibited.

I reran the SRS install - and it still couldn't find ASP.net 1.1 and therefore has not installed the web components that MS Dynamics CRM 3.0 requires..

Could someone at least give me a pointer in the right direction here to getting it (SRS) installed happily?

AnthonyI may have found your answer. I believe it's here: http://icu-mscrm.blogspot.com/2007/08/fix-for-weird-error-when-installing-sql.html

Installing SQL server 2005 evaluation

After unzipping the download I have run the splash.hta file. I then chose run the sql native client installation wizard. I then receive the installation package is not supported by this processor type. Contact your product vendor. I am installing this for a class I am taking on a test station. It is a PIII 863 with 512 MB or Ram, running windows 2003 enterprise server SP1. I have looked at the hardware guidelines and it seems this is enough to run it. Any ideas? Are you sure you did not download any 64bit images ? What does the Splash Screen tell you ?

HTH, Jens K. Suessmeyer.

http://www.sqlserver2005.de

|||Across the top of the splash screen is says SQL Server 2005 (Disk 1 of 2). Then the start options, prepare, install, other information. At the bottom it has Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Evaluation edition. No where does it mention 64bit.|||I was able to find a link to the SQL Server 2000 evaluation edition, and may opt to install that if I cannot corrent the other issue. Does anyone have any other ideas?|||That really does sound like the message displayed when you run a 64-bit application on a 32-bit operating system. Can you try to double click on setup.exe and see if it displays a similar message? If so, it would be displayed even before you see the license dialog.|||Just one quick thing to add. When I downloaded the evaluation edition, I only saw one download. I assumed that when did you the install you chose whether to install the 64bit version or the 32bit version. Are there two seperate downloads for this, one for each version?|||

After reviewing all 3 downloadable links, it appears the X86 download is the non 64 bit download. After looking at the one I downloaded and installed, it appears it is the 64 bit version. Why the 32 bit version is named X86, I am not sure.

|||

That is the correct behavior that you are seeing. The three packages are:

x86 - for all 32-bit machines
x64 - for x64 (AMD-64) 64-bit machines
ia64 - for ia64 (Itanium) 64-bit machines

I selected client tools only after clicking setup.exe, but query analyzer and isql or Microsoft Server Management studio were not installed.
Any help will be useful.

Thanks

On teh Components to install dialog during the setup select the option : Workstation tools, Books Online and development tools and click on the Advanced tab at the bottom.

Under the Client Components node, select the client tools which you want to install and proceed further.

Installing SQL express and attaching a mdf db from the Command Prompt

Hi,

I need to install a customed SQL server express instance on the client's computer by using the Command prompt installation. I've already defined the security settings and everything i need but i was wondering if is possible to attach a mdf database during the installation. Perhaps there is a paramenter i can include in the in the ini file.

Thank you

No, you can not attach a database as part of the installation command prompt. You will need to do that from some other process, possibly in the wrapper that you're using to run the command prompt in the first place. If you're not using a language that supports connecting to SQL, you could just create a script and call that script using the SQLCmd utility, which runs from the command prompt as well.

Search BOL for information about using SQLCmd.

Mike

|||Hi,

if you embedded your installation as part of a bootstrapper you could call (as Mike said) the SQLCmd.exe utiltiy as a custom install step and use the sp_attachdb or CREATE DATABSE for attaching within the command like the following example: SQLCMD.exe -E -Q"sp_attach @.dbname ='SomeDbname', @.FileName1 ='C:\SomeFOlder\SomeFile.mdf', @.FileName2 ='C:\SomeFOlder\SomeFile.mdf'

Thank you for your answers.

Just one last thing: I creating two separate procedures to install and attach the database into one wrapper. Because launching a SqlCmd starts a separate sql installation. Is there a way to know when the installation is completed and how it went so the attachment process can be launched automatically?

|||

When I do the script you mention it works for some computers and for others it won't.

I found that changing the SQL Server Configuration manager(SCM) to local for those that it doesn't work is enough to make the script run. When it was setup as NTAuthority instead of local it gave a Error 5 (acces denied).

Is any command to change the Logon Mode for the SCM that I can add as part of my script?
What am I doing wrong? How to default it to be a local logon instead of NTAuthority?

Installing SQL 6.5 and 2000 client utilities on the same machine

Can I install the client utilities for Microsoft SQL versions 6.5 and 2000 in the same machine?
Please, provide me with any information or links in this matter.I believe you have to install 6.5 first, then 2k/7 client

The other way around won't work...|||You probably can, although I've never tried. If you have the Client Utilities for SQL-2000, you really don't need the utilities for 6.5 because you can manage a 6.5 server using the 2000 tools.
