Installing SSRS Dev Ed on Vista

I cannot get RS to install on Vista. I have a clean install of Vista with
IIS 7 installed. I was not getting the option to install SSRS when I first
installed Sql Server. I installed SP2 and still cannot get the SSRS option
to show up. How do I get SSRS installed?

Jimif nothing is possible just go to the CD and search for sql_rs.exe setup file
try installing directly. Search this file in the setup folder.

screen that syas "feature selection" but the box where i'd select RS is empty.

Reporting Services for SQL Server2000 was released long after SQL
Server2000. Usually it is a seperate installation (after SQL Server2000
installed) and on a seperate CD/installation package. SO, you need to find
the dick with SSRS2000 in it.

Its not an sp2 thing but it apppears to have got past testing ...

Installing sql server on vista

Hi Guys,

I m a beginner to sql server 2000 or 2005 .i want to install sql server on my PC (windows vista).can you please tell me how to download and install the sql server.i want to practise some procedures and sql statements.can you please guide me what should i download (server and client).

OK, there is no "client" for SQL Server, you can use the normal MDAC drivers or install the SQL Native client. The server version which is free of charge can be downloaded from the Microsoft site. Head out for the SQL Server Express SP2 version (and especially for beginners the advanced edition with the additional toolset)

Installing SQL Server Management Studio over Express

I just got a new machine with Vista on it. It also came with SQL Server 2005 Express.

How do I install SQL Server Management Console on this machine? I do have an MSDN DVD with a Developer's Edition on it. Can I use this somehow? When I try to run the Tools setup.exe with SKUUPGRADE=1, it tells me there is nothing to upgrade.

Is there a separate download somewhere?

I would uninstall Express and install the Developer Edition. Express doesn't have alot of stuff and Developer is the equivalent of the Enterprise Edition (but obviously can't be used in production). For instance, some features you can't use with Express is SSIS (which is the new generation DTS) and SQL Profiler.

Like you, I initially had Express installed, but the above is what I did and it wasn't a problem to uninstall and reinstall.

I have been trying to install SQL Server 2005 (Developer Edition) on a computer with Vista Business. I can't seem to be able to install SQL Server 2005 SP2 and when I attempt to login, I get the message.

Cannot connect to Server.

the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attemp failed because the connected party dd not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connect host has failed to respond) Microsoftw SQL Server Errore 10060

Yes, I finally got SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition working on Vista Business. I could not find the resolution to this issue anywhere. After losing 5 days of work I decided to break down and pay the $245 charge for a Microsoft Support call. I was put on hold for over an hour to try to speak to someone in India. For $245 I would like to talk with an American. I finally decided to hang up before the support person picked up. I was sooooooooooooo frustrated.

The way I see it the default installation on the Developer Edition would never work. Unlike previous versions of SQL Server that were very easy to install. This was a mess. I am very disappointed in SQL Server 20005 Developer Edition to date.

I would be happy to share my resolution with another user and with Microsoft for $245.00.

Sql Server 2005 without SP2 on Vista isn't supported by Microsoft. You can install it, it works, but you should install SP2 as soon as it comes out.|||

It's giving me the warning and on moving ahead it's not giving me option to installing SQL Components (SQL Server, Analisys Server, Reporting Services etc.)...what I am getting is just to install Native Client.

I had IIS 7 installed. The first time was a clean install of vista with iis 7. I tried IIS running without IIS 6 compatibility and with it. During the setup of db services it fails to find the user. I am using the local system account option to install. I confirmed IIS was installed both times before installing sql server 2005 by using the browser and looking at http://localhost.

Yes, I log onto the system as local administrator. During the install I select local account rather domain. When the install setups the db service I get the error that it cannot find the local sql server account. The account is something like this:

"\USERNAME\SQLServer2005MSFTEUser$USERNAME$MSSQLSERVER".

My machine name and acount name are the same so in the format above the first "USERNAME" might be machine name. But it does not find the account and things fail after that. I also have to unplug the network cable because the install cannot hangs when setting file security. I have seen that issue with other installs also in the news groups.

Can you use your domain account for the installation (after making yourself a local administrator of the machine) and keep it connected to the network during the installation?

Or else, is it possible you are using a test version of Vista? Or perhaps you haven't installed a software requirement for SQL 2005? Or forgot SQL 2005 CTP SP2?

I am the local administrator on my machine even on my domain account. I have to unplug from the network when installing on vista or win xp. I am certain that I am using vista rtm not a test version. All of the software requirements needed are installed on the the vista system prior to install the sql server 2005 install verifies that. You cannot install the ctp sp2 untill you have installed sql server.

I even went backwards and installed win xp w/sp2 (with iis6) and then installed sql server 2005 with ctp sp2. Finally I upgraded to vista. Then when I started checking iis 7 i ran into other problems. IIS 7 said it could not run because the WAS and web publishing services weren't running. So I checked and they were. I tried unstalling and re-installing iis 7, and when I tried to start it, it complained the web publishing service was running. So I stopped it and it complained it wasn't running. At that point after five days of trying I threw up my hands in disgust and went back to win xp sp2.

I could not believe that all of the application compatiblily testing had not included vs 2005 , sql server 2005 and the iis 7 upgrade. All of this and google searches have led me to believe they need a new install for sql server 2005 not just a service pack. Needing to unplug the network cable during install is not a new issue I have talked to other developers who have seen the same thing. Add all of this together with vista's UAC makes for bad user experiences.

Also I don't want to use my domain account because I am running on a laptop. I am only hooked into my domain at work a small percentage of the time. I believe it would work but I prefer the local account.

Even though you log in to Vista with an administrator account, it seems to run in a shell that imitates a non-administrator. That's why you receive all those notices when you install software asking for your permission.

I have uninstalled and paid more attention on my reinstall and the install routine and all goes smoothly until the actual install wants to start and it tells me that SQL Server Database Services 8.00.761 are already installed. Reading the details further says...

Installing SQL Server 2005 on Vista...

I am having the absolute worst luck installing SQL 2005 developers edition on my windows vista laptop. In class we have been using SQL 2000, but I bought a new laptop that has vista home premium preloaded so I need to use 2005 (says the solution analyzer). I have loaded all the IIS services and tried to install the first CD (it never asks for the 2nd one. During the system configuration check i get an "edition change check" waring and a "IIS feature requirement" warning. Once the install completes I cant find the query analyzer or any other SQL applications, just the configuration tools folder. I have tried running the latest service pack with no luck. I have visual studio loaded 2005 loaded as well and didnt have any issues with that, could anyone help me out?

1. IIS warning message indicates that IIS is still configured correctly. Please double check whether you do check "IIS Backward Compatibility", which is required. Without knowing what the Setup routine checks for, you will not be able to force the requirement as Success without a lot of playing around it. Normally on a Client OS the version will most likely not show up correctly. Like Windows 2000 and Windows XP. 2000 had 5.0 IIS and XP had 5.1.

Installing SQL Server 2005 on Vista...

I am having the absolute worst luck installing SQL 2005 developers edition on my windows vista laptop. In class we have been using SQL 2000, but I bought a new laptop that has vista home premium preloaded so I need to use 2005 (says the solution analyzer). I have loaded all the IIS services and tried to install the first CD (it never asks for the 2nd one. During the system configuration check i get an "edition change check" waring and a "IIS feature requirement" warning. Once the install completes I cant find the query analyzer or any other SQL applications, just the configuration tools folder. I have tried running the latest service pack with no luck. I have visual studio loaded 2005 loaded as well and didnt have any issues with that, could anyone help me out?

Installing SQL Server 2005 on Vista Business

I've been attempting to install SQL 2005 Standar on my Vista Business laptop. I am able to install all the components except for Reporting Services - the checkbox for it is disabled. I have installed/activated IIS, so I don't know why this option is still unavailable to me. Can anyone assist me?

I have installed IIS and its checked in the pre-installation checklist, and the only thing with an exclamation point is the OS which is to be expected.

The issue im having is that when i get to the screen to select the features/components i want to install, they are all disabled apart from "Workstation components, Books online etc..."

Where am i going wrong with this.. I know i need the services pack to install reporting services, but i cant install anything at this point.

A walkthrough or something would really help...

I have not been able to get iis to be seen correctly. I have turned on every service with IIS7 available and still get warning IIS in not running. I have changed computer name to all caps and I am running on admin account. I see IIS7 when I run localhost. What is wrong here. When I go on to install system I get stuck at detecting installed IIS. As I move forward with install owc, DB services,Notification, Intagrated, and workstation components all fail. I cant move onto sp2 because nothing is installed. I have worked on this for months off and on and now I have to have it running for deadline. Any help would be appreciated. I also have VS2005 and office 2007 on this system. I have worked on this the past two days solid and I have to have it now.

I had to uninstall all of the office components and then I was able to get past OWC11. Then I still failed with all the others. I then installed sp2. I then went back and did a mimimal install and it worked. Then I went back and reran sp2. Then I went back and did a complete reinstall and reran sp2. I now have DB on vista. On troublesome problem still is IIS7 I enabled everything I could restarted it and still system did not see it. Different forum and different issue I suspect.

It would be nice put out updated install directions for sql 2005 standard(different flavors) on VISTA(different flavors). Maybe they did but hours of searching did not produce them.

Installing Sql 2005 on Vista - checkboxes grayed out.

When I try to install SQL 2005 Enterprise edition on Vista - the checkboxes for everything but what i think is the client tools are grayed out.

I get 3 warnings -

Sql server edition os system compatibility

iis feature requirement

edition change check

IIS is enabled, i have installed sp1(i thought this would fix the compatibility issue) and i think the edition change is because i have redone this about 6 times now - and it detects that i have done this before.

so i click next on the install wizard and get to the check box tree and the only one available to check is the workstation components.

what am i doing wrong?

Enterprise Edition isn't supported on Vista, which is why it's grayed out. You can install Developer Edition, though, which has all the features of Enterprise Edition.|||

is vista a workstation or a server? is the the xp pro replacement? is it the server 2003 replacement? or it is intended to be both? the documentation is a bit confusing.
