Hi All,
I want to run SSRS 2K5 on a windows XP pro workstation. Is this possible as I have tried several times but no luck. Cannot connect to the website http://servername/reports from internet explorer 7.
Has anyone ever successfully done this?

Make sure you have IIS and Sql Server Agent running and actually insert your server name into the address (eg http://localhost/reports).Please tell me what I am missing here. I've got an XP Pro machine with SQL Server Express running and a laptop with XP running the Management Studio Express. This is on my home network which is wireless. I can't see any databases on the XP Pro machine from the laptop. Is there something besides just installing SQL Server that I need to do? I've checked forums, documentation and co-workers but no luck.

You can not access SQL Express over the network. For that you need at least SQL Developer edition

|||The suggestion from our devs is that you might be running both a x64 and an x86 installation at the same time. Can you check that out? Look at taskmanager for "setup.exe". If more than one are running, try killing the extras. Then run just the x64 installer.

Now how do I overcome this problem? Please note that the Authentication mode I am using is Windows Authentication.
Someone please suggest me a concrete solution. It's driving me nuts! My receding hairline is getting further receded!
Lastly, please note that, as far as possible, I would like to keep the instance name as Merver\SQLEXPRESS only.

You cant install enterprise edition on XP Pro (or 2000 Pro), it must be installed on Windows Server.
If you want the features of Enterprise Edition for R&D, you need to install Developer Edition. Otherwise Express Edition or MSDE will also work on workstation platforms.

The reason the workstation components are available, is that XP Pro (like Windows 2000 Pro) is a workstation, and this option will allow you to install tools such as the SQL Management Studio, Books Online etc.

I am using Windows XP PRO and trying to Install SQL SERVER 2000 Reporting Services.
I have already installed SQL SERVER 2000 developer Edition, sql server service pack 3, VS.NET 2003 and .NET frame work 1.1.
I downloaded the SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services Evaluation Edition. I expected that there are both Server Component and Client Components which are available to install because evaluation edition support all features of Enterprise Edition. However I only saw the Client Components available during setup. Where can I find the Server Components to install? I appreciate very much if I can get advice from any of you.

JaneThe SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services will not install without SP3a go back to the SQL Server web site and download the SP3a, it is nothing but 10.5megs of Transact-SQL code, there are 25 files in all but Windows use only files needed per your XP box. When you reinstall Reporting Services remember to install it with the local systems account because XP box is for development only, and ignore all the questions except the number of users. particular, are you logged in with an administrator account when you
run setup, and is your XP PC in a domain, or is it standalone? Have
you also tried using the LocalSystem account (although it's better to
use a domain account)?
If you're logged in as an administrator, and if the account meets the
requirements described in Books Online ("Setting up Windows Services
Accounts"), then it should be fine.

Yes, I am logged in as an administrator and use the username and
password for a different Administrator when on the SQL Server setup
page (username: sqlserver, password: sqlserver, domain: XP7.
Can you tell me what you mean about "is your PC in a domain"? It is
networked using a DHCP server and can see the other computers (it is
named: "XP7"). I installed iton a Windows 2000 Professional box a few
days ago with no problem. Going through the exact same procedure on XP
Pro doesn't work!

I'm not sure I understand if XP7 is a computer name or a domain name,
but I suspect it's a computer name. I would try the following:
1. Logon with your own Administrator account - check you have local
admin rights
2. Logon with the "sqlserver" account - check you have local admin
rights
3. Logon with your own Administrator account - run setup
Assuming both accounts really do have local admin rights, then there
should be no reason for account validation to fail. I asked about a
domain because if the workstation is in a domain (ie. an Active
Directory domain), then it's possible that there is some group or
machine policy which is creating a problem. Although if you have a
domain, it would probably be better to use a domain account for the
SQL service, not a local computer account - I suspect there may be
some confusion here between these two types of account, but I'm not at
all sure.
