Installing Visual Web Dev. 2005 Express: Must uninstall ANY previous versions of SQL Server

Hello,
According to http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/vwd/download/, I have to uninstall any and all versions of SQL before I attempt to install the VWD 2005 express edition. is there a work around this? I currently have SQL 2000 installed for my work; a must have for me, I can't just uninstall it.
(yes I left a similar question in the Visual forums, but haven't received any replies as of yet..just fishing for an answer here)
thanks so much, looking forward to giving VWD a test drive.

That warning was intended to have users remove any and all previous Betas of SQL Server 2005 prior to installing VWD Express.

It's okay to have MSDE or SQL 2000 on your box, or even to have SQL Server 2005 on your box. But if you have any of the SQL Server 2005 Betas or CTP installs, please remove them first.

Installing SS2005 RTM on machine which previously had CTP versions

Hi, when trying to Install SS2005 RTM on a machine which previously had CTP versions, the install is failing with "instance all ready exists" for SQL server an analysis server after about 30 minutes, the old versions where removed successfully via control panel.

I vaguely remember an article saying MS had a tool to clean up all the old references to the various CTP versions, but cant find a link for it, it is late so I maybe dreaming, but could somebody point me to it? I will be very grateful

Thanks

Pat

The file can be found in your CTP installation dir (sqlbuw.exe).
Shameless request to visit my blog where the exact location can be found :-) But a Search will get you going too :-)

Installing SQL Server express and full versions on the same machine

Simple question, is it doable?

I tried once before and my machine was messed up.

Thanks

hi,

personally I did..

I do have a Developer edition and Express edition with no problems at all..

regards

I have both on the same machine. (On multiple computers.)

Perhaps something about the order of installation.

My installation was SQL 2000 first, then SQL 2005.

Installing SQL Server 2005 Express

Hi, I have installed the Visual Web Developer 2005 trial IDE. The installation also came with SQL Server 2005 Express. I have used other versions of SQL Server in the past and have been able to navigate the databases, use Query Analyzer etc.

In the current (SQL Server 2005 Express edition) installation all I have is a program group named "MS SQL Server 2005">"Configuration Tools">"SQL Server Configuration Manager", "SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting" and "SQL Server Surface Area Configuration".

My question is 'Have I not completed the installation?". How do I create databases?

Thanks in advance for your help!

*shiku

SQL Server 2005 Express does not come with Query Analyzer and Enterprise Manager. It's like MSDE. You can create a database from within Visual Studio (see View menu, Server Explorer) or try this download from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=82AFBD59-57A4-455E-A2D6-1D4C98D40F6E&displaylang=en (though it's not the final version, it worked fine for me)

Installing SQL Express when you've been a good little drone!!!

So I keep up with what MS are doing, it's my job.

I download the beta versions to have a look.

Then I try to install SQL Express an it tells me I have the remains of beta versions.

I look in A&R no signs of the beta version left.

What can I do?

Looks like I'll be Mygrating to MySQL.

Why do I feel like MS is always taking PESH!!!

You will have to remove all existance of beta components like it is mentioned on the site:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/

"

2.

Uninstall beta versions

Before you install any members of the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition family, you must uninstall any previous Beta, CTP or Tech Preview versions of SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005, and the .NET Framework 2.0.

Installing SQL 6.5 and 2000 client utilities on the same machine

Can I install the client utilities for Microsoft SQL versions 6.5 and 2000 in the same machine?
Please, provide me with any information or links in this matter.I believe you have to install 6.5 first, then 2k/7 client

The other way around won't work...|||You probably can, although I've never tried. If you have the Client Utilities for SQL-2000, you really don't need the utilities for 6.5 because you can manage a 6.5 server using the 2000 tools.

-PatP|||You sure about that?|||I guess I haven't tried recently, but I think that you can as long as you are running sp6 or later on the 6.5 server... I don't have any 6.5 servers running anymore to verify that though.

-PatP|||Lucky you...

I think I got 1 lion around I can check....

Installing SQL

I get the message:

Sql Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .Net Framework, or Sql Server 2005. Use Add or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 again.

I have run the program vs_uninst_betas.exe but this did not help.

Please some help

Hi,

go in the ADD/REMOVE Programs in the control panel and install every beta product which used .NET 2.0 beta like SQL Server 2005 beta 1/2/3 , Yukon, VS Express, VS Net etc. and/or additionally the -NET Framework package by itself.
