Instance Name Not Visible.

I have laptops that require the loopback adapter when they are not
connected. However when they connect back to the network the networked
servers display just the computer name not the / instancename. Any
ideas? It only happens on network instances. The local instances are
correct. This happens in Enterprise Manager, Access connection tool
and using SQL-DMO.

are the laptops instances "named instances" or "default instances"?

Instance failure.

why I am getting (Instance failure.) when trying to connect to sql server from the web.config connectionstring..

the web.config entry is :

<connectionStrings>

<addname="website_connectionstring"connectionString="Data Source=.\\SQLEXPRESS;initial catalog=zatoor;integrated security=true"providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

<!--

<remove name="website_connectionstring"/>

<add name="website_connectionstring" connectionString="Server=whsql-v21.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net;Database=DB_143379;User ID=zatoor;Password=Mujtaba2007;Trusted_Connection=False" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

-->

</connectionStrings>

the code is :

sql_connection =newSqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["website_connectionstring"].ToString());

sql_connection.Open();

It looks you have provided wrong data source .. to confirm this login to sql management studio and check it should be

YouMachineName\SQLEXPRESS confirm the same and update the connectionString

This will solve the problem

i downloaded proclarity desktop profesional from microsoft website and installed ..

but i am unable to connect to analytics server..does it need separate software or is it my databse..what is pas in that and which user id /password i must give..Is it databse serevr address or any other..

i tried by all means but failed..can u give me other versions of downloads..or help in installing desktop profesional...

its urgent...plzz help me out...

Hi,

You don't need anymore software, you should be able to connect to the ProClarity Server with out any problems. That is with the assumption you can access it via a URL. Normally something like http://SERVERNAME/PAS.

You did install the analytic server?

Hope that helps

Matt

Installion problem with SQL Express April CTP

When intalling SQL Server 2005 Express this gives me the message:
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service forserver configuration. The error was: {Microsoft}{ODBC Driver Manager}Data source name not found and no default driver specified Refer toserver error logs and setup logs for more information. For details onhow to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL ServerBooks Online. Error No:29545
which I don't get since I have SQL Server 2000 Dev Edtion running,Win 2K sp4. I couldn't find anything in the MS KB to explain why it'sdoing so.. anything I missed perhaps?

Well, what does the setup log file have to say about the failure?

Installing SSRS 2005 on Windows XP Pro

Hi All,

I want to run SSRS 2K5 on a windows XP pro workstation. Is this possible as I have tried several times but no luck. Cannot connect to the website http://servername/reports from internet explorer 7.

Has anyone ever successfully done this?

Gappo

Make sure you have IIS and Sql Server Agent running and actually insert your server name into the address (eg http://localhost/reports).

Good luck...

Installing SQLNCLI

I would like to install the SQLNCLI on our IIS machine, and possibly other
workstations that need to connect to SQL Server 2005. Where is the correct
location to get the most update to date version of SQLNCLI? Also need the
installation instructions and considerations.
Thanks
Greg.
Greg,
It's here in the latest Feature Pack: -
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=50b97994-8453-4998-8226-fa42ec403d17&displaylang=en
As a standalone it seems it will be in the feature pack.

Installing SQL

I am learning ASP.NET from teach yourself ASP.NET in 24 hours. When i try to connect to the SQL Server i get an error "SQL Server does not exist or access denied".

SQL appears to exist, and to be running. I am trying to connect through Localhost.

Where should i be looking if access is being denied by a firewall and how should i disable it

Connection to local SQL always uses Shared Memory Network Library by default, which should not be blocked. Please post your error message and connection string.

Hi Lori-Jay

The message is:

Unable to connect to database server.

SQL does not exist or access denied.

ConnectionOpen(Connect())

|||Hi, did you forget to post your connection string?Smile [:)]|||

Hi,

Where do i find the connection string? I am simply using the example in the book which gives me some buttons and text boxes to fill in.

These are

SQL Server authentication button on

User name which I completed as instructed as SA

And the password which I used to install MSDE

And then I hit "Create a new database"

I then got the error above.

Where would I find the connection string?

|||

So you're using MSDE, thus leads us closer to the answer. Are you using ASP.NET 2.0? Sorry I'm not familiar with the example you mentioned, so if possible please give a link that I can follow to try the sample. Is it something like this?

http://download.microsoft.com/download/C/3/8/C3888A3E-52F8-4FE9-8E41-89150AB0302F/CreateDB.zip.exe

If yes, please open to sample solution with VS2005 and right click the form where you create the database (Form1.vb in this sample) in Solution Explorer, choose View Code. You should see some code like this:

Public Class Form1

' Initialize constants for connecting to the database
' and displaying a connection error to the user.
Protected Const SqlConnectionString As String = _
"Server=(local);" & _
"DataBase=;" & _
"Integrated Security=SSPI"

Protected Const ConnectionErrorMessage As String = _
"To run this sample, you must have SQL " & _
"installed. For " & _
"instructions on installing SQL, view the documentation file."

Protected didPreviouslyConnect As Boolean = False
Protected didCreateTable As Boolean = False
Protected connectionString As String = SqlConnectionString

.....

And explorer the 'Create database section you'll find this line which gets connectionString:

Dim connection As New SqlConnection(connectionString)

As we can see the default connection is made to local default SQL instance. So what you need to do is customizing the const that host connection string to point to your MSDE server name. For example:

"Server=myServer\myMSDESvr;" & _
"DataBase=;" & _
"Integrated Security=SSPI"
