OK so everytime I try to install SQL server onto my server that is Windows
2003 with Sharepoint 2003 it fails. Is there something that I need to know
or some process that I'm missing? Thanks!
Can you tell us a bit more. What error do you get. Also, take a look at
%windir%\sqlstp.log file to see what causes the failure.

|||Having Sharepoint should not interfere with anything related to the sql
install.. As OJ says, in the windows directory there should be a file called
Sqlstp.log. Take a look at the log, it shows everthing that is going on
regarding the install.

|||Except that Sharepoint Sever installs MSDE unless you tell it otherwise. I
suspect that your SQL Server install is conflicting with the existing MSDE
copy. Normally, Sharepoint will install a named instance called
SHAREPOINTPORTAL that should not interefere with a default instance or some
other named instance you choose that is different than from above; however,
you will need to choose a listening port or allow it to be dynamic.
Do as the others suggest and check th setup log.
Sincerely,
Anthony Thomas

|||Hi Lee,
As oj and MVP Wayne suggested, you are welcome to post
c:\windows\sqlstp.log here and we will help troubleshooting this for you.
Also, anything available in Event Log might help. More detailed
descriptions, I believe, will make us closer to the resolution.
Thank you for your patience and corporation. If you have any questions or
concerns, don't hesitate to let me know. We are always here to be of
assistance!
Sincerely yours,
